| When
the Walkers Snack Foods Group were looking to improve their
on-line inkjet printing of 'best before' and traceability
codes on to outer cartons, they chose ATD Inkjet Systems and
found a considerable reduction in running costs, improved
cleanliness of the printing environment, and much higher print
resolution.
Replacing
'valve drop on demand' technology with ATD's 'impulse' inkjet
technology, Walkers Snack Foods were able to reduce running
costs by lowering ink consumption and eliminating the need
to stop production whilst ink was being replenished. The high
resolution offered by the ATD impulse inkjet has also meant
more information could be printed in less space. One year
on, Walkers have also found no additional costs incurred for
spares and no downtime.
Said
Graham Saunt, Change Manager at Walkers Snack Foods, Leicester,
"The
project to replace all the carton coders at the six crisps
and snacks sites within Walkers Snack Foods Ltd made it necessary
to choose the correct equipment, first time of asking.
The
search for the right inkjet coder for Walkers involved trials
and analysis for a six month period with packaging specialists
from each side.
Whilst
the decision to choose ATD required increased investment,
the improved quality of print, reduced ink usage and no spares
used in the first 12 months, has been more than justified
and has meant a step change in the carton coding with Walkers
Snack Foods.
The
project with ATD has shown them to be a professional company
who can manage their operation within tight time constraints
and provide an excellent after sales service."
The
ATD IP9000 'impulse'
inkjet uses environmentally friendly non-MEK inks that do
not require specialised and costly storage, and offers the
flexibility to print at high resolution, 1 to 4 lines of alpha-numeric
information as well as graphics and barcodes up to 48mm in
height. |
