EXCEPTIONAL JOB WINS ATD FURTHER KP ORDER
When leading UK snacks manufacturer K.P. Foods needed
a replacement for their unreliable valve Drop on Demand
printers, it turned to ATD Inkjet Solutions Ltd. and has
found over time that the solution has brought significant
savings – both in terms of time and money.
The unreliability of the printers, used to ensure vital
information is printed on each packaging case was causing
KP increased problems, with breakdowns and difficult to
read codes leading to production losses. Clearly the situation
could not be allowed to continue in a market sector where
competition is ever fierce.

Then K.P. turned to ATD Inkjet Systems Ltd, a specialist
company which provides solutions for the food, beverage,
pharmaceutical and hardware markets.

Printing With The ATD IP9000.
ATD quickly supplied one of its state-of-the-art IP9000
impulse printers, to replace the old valve printers K.P.
was using. The first of many systems was installed as a
simple stand alone unit seven years ago and the rest, as
they say, is history. The latest installation by ATD now
takes the total number of machines installed at the Windy
Ridge site to 12, one for every production line that K.P.
runs.
KP Production Line
As KP production demands have grown it has become necessary
for the ATD system to identify individual products on conveyors
so that the correct “Best Before” information
can be printed. This has been achieved with the introduction
of the ATD Win Controller software – a customisable
PC driven software package that controls a number of IP9000
systems over a network. Combined with in-line barcode laser
scanners, information can be decoded at the PC and matched
with the correct “Best before” information held
on the KP database and transmitted to the relevant IP9000
for printing.

In response to customer requests this system has been
developed further to provide data logging and production
output statistics,
enabling accurate reports
of products manufactured within a selected timeframe.
KP’s central project manager Ian King is clear in
his praise of what ATD has achieved. ‘‘We truly
were having problems,’’ he says. ‘‘It
was clear to us all that we needed to get printers that
would be both reliable and efficient. ATD did an exceptional
job. They put one of the systems in as a trial for three
or four months and we have never looked back.
“We now have 12 of the ATD inkjet systems and we
hardly know they are there – except once in six months
when they need an ink refill! They are extremely reliable
and operator friendly machines and we are confident that
everything leaving our factory leaves with reliable and
accurate ‘best before’ information coded on
to it – a must in the world of modern day food production.”

The relationship between the two companies is such that
Mr King has never even thought of looking elsewhere for
a different deal. ‘‘We would not go to anyone
else. Why should we when we get the best from ATD?’’ he
says.
Over at ATD they count the K.P. connection as yet another
in a long list of success stories. ATD’s sales and
marketing director Paul Reeve says: ‘‘We have
been delighted to assist such a high-profile name as K.P.
to get the best system for printing information on their
product cases. We have developed a close working relationship
with them, just as we try to do with all our customers.’’
