Measured Success

17/05/00

Severn Valley Timbers Ltd has automated the printing of length codes on to the end-grain of pre-cut timber profiles by using ATD inkjet printers connected to specially designed software running from a PC.

Information about the length of each timber profile, gauged by the total number of photocell signals blocked as it exits a planing machine, is sent from a PC to an inkjet printer supplied by ATD Inkjet Systems Ltd.

The ATD IP9000 ‘impulse’ inkjet chosen because of its high resolution (a requirement due to space limitations on the end-grain), automatically prints in red ink a pre-programmed code according to the input received from the PC.

Industrially rugged, the IP9000 is particularly suitable for the harsh environment presented at Severn Valley Timbers. This has been proven with the inkjet system having no start-up or print quality problems over the six months that it has been installed.
